Two Months and Counting

Christopher is over 2 months old, though his adjusted age would only be 2 days old. Since his due date was October 8th. It gets complicated when I take him out to the store or for a walk and someone asks his age. Do I tell them 2 months, because for a 2 month old baby he looks really, really tiny. Or, do I tell them his adjusted age and have everyone stare at me like I am crazy going for walks when they think I gave birth 2 days ago. I usually compromise and say he is a few weeks old. By few I mean 8 weeks, but they don't need to know that.

There are some positives to having a preemie, though you probably couldn't tell from my posts. He stays tiny for months longer then due date babies. Since his brother Freddy is 25 lbs it's nice to carry a tiny baby around.

It's also nice to have the new born clothes last longer. He will probably wear the NB clothes for a few more months. With Freddy they lasted a little over a month and he was on to 3 month clothes, because he was so big.

I know these are superficial positives, but they are what I got so I am hanging on to them. As of Christopher's last check up a few weeks ago he was 7lbs 6oz, so he is a good size for a new born. The doctor said that the rate he is growing at his 2 month check up (this Friday) he should be out of the preemie category and in to the regular baby group as far as height/weight/head size are concerned. So, fingers crossed.

It's been wonderful having Christopher home. I worried how his brother would handle it, but Freddy loves Christopher. He goes to Christopher's crib every morning to look at him. He smiles up at me and points at his little brother. He even said brother once. It sounded more like "bra dar" but he is trying.

I thought having 2 kids, especially ones so young, would be difficult, but it's not as bad as I thought. I am sure once Christopher is mobile I'll be singing a different tune, but for now Michael and I are surviving. I realize now that I don't have to come running every time the baby makes a sound. When Freddy was that age I ran to his side for everything, because I never had a child before so I didn't know any better. Now, I wait a few minutes (usually because I'm dealing with a toddler or in the bathroom) and think, "He'll be fine." Usually he falls back asleep. If I had only known this with Freddy, I would have gotten a lot more rest. Once you have gone through raising a baby, you realize how much easier it is the second time around.
